Since my last post, winter turned into spring, and I couldn't be more happy. 😊 Every year at the end of winter, my heart sings when I think of spring - my favourite season. I was born in May and only recently I have been noticing that people are fond of the season they were born. I wonder if it's true?
We have now had an amazing 3 weeks of spring, and the English countryside is blooming beautifully.
As a busy mum of two, no matter how much I try to live my slow life, I may not always stitch my favourite spring accents in time, but I take mental notes, sketches, photos, and videos. Thanks to the internet, we can see the flowers we want to stitch at any time of the year. For today's project, we are admiring the graceful crocus flower. It is one of the first flowers to bloom and once bloomed it only lasts for about 3 weeks. The crocus symbolises rebirth, hope and new beginnings and comes in a variety of colours, including pink, purple, yellow, lavender, orange, cream and white.
I have created two new crocus designs plus a video tutorial. The hand embroidery, once finished, can be featured in a little picture frame. I can already imagine it on a kitchen wall, near the window with plants on the windowsill, or in a beautiful and cosy hallway.
For this project, I have cut enough fabric to create a drawstring bag. I have a few projects like this already and in one of my future posts I will show how easy it is to make one. If you cannot wait though, you can check out this post, where I have created such a pouch in the past.
Now, onto the crocus embroidery itself. I have used only a few stitches. First, I have outlined all petals with the back stitch, then I have stitched with the long and short stitch, as well as with the stem and outline stitch. I am showing it in more details in the video tutorial below.
The crocus templates are available in my shop as instant download PDF files. ↓
